Ideas for Teaching Reading
Step 3: Focus on an aspect of your practice
- What do you believe is positive about the reading instruction and/or curriculum in your program? What evidence or data does the program or teachers collect to support these beliefs?
- Based on the articles you just read, what do you believe could be improved about reading instruction in your program and why?
- Reflect on the students in your program or classes. How might you implement the research findings or instructional strategies with particular students or classes?
How to use this research:
- Brainstorm ideas for implementing some of the research findings or strategies into your own practice. Choose an idea to try out in your program or class, or with a particular student. Plan how you will implement the idea and determine what evidence you will collect for assessing its effectiveness.
- Develop your own research question, based on issues in your practice. Develop plans for gathering data and looking at the issue closely.
