Philosophy of Using Authentic Curriculum

Step 2: Reflect on this research and your practice

  1. Read the handout Key Concepts [PDF]. After reading this handout, identify where your program is on the following continuum in its philosophy of teaching and learning.

    types of curriculum
Now identify what your own position was on the continuum before reading the article. It's okay if your philosophy differs from your program's philosophy. After you read the article, did your philosophy of teaching and learning change? What is your position now along the continuum?

  2. Read the handout Three Approaches to Curriculum [PDF]. Think about how each approach—traditional, learner-driven, and critical—looks in the classroom.  List the advantages and disadvantages of each approach.
